Happy anniversary to us!
Today is the one-year anniversary of the date I first published this site. Looking back, it's
been a wonderful year! And it's been quite a learning experience.
I want to take a moment to give heartfelt thanks to all of you who have made this website
and the print edition so successful within its first year.
I never dreamed when I started this project I would call so many new people my friends in
such a short time.
Your support has been tremendous! Thank you!!

Just a quick note today ... I'm in the home stretch of putting together the winter/spring print
edition.
Looking forward to the Living History Fair at the Sandusky County Fairgrounds, Fremont,
Ohio, next weekend, Feb. 6-7. Hope to see you there!

Tom Stahl reports last year's Native American teaching day is expanding this year into a
Heritage Festival May 14-16, 2010, at the Defiance County Fairgrounds. He is seeking
people to attend the new event. Friday is a school day. The committee plans a community
dance on Friday night and a teen dance on Saturday, food vendors and crafters. The site
has showers, restrooms and fires must be contained in a ring. Any groups or individuals
interested in participating can contact him at thomasstahl@tds.net

Karen Ball of Caesar's Creek Pioneer Village has scheduled an event called "Habitat for
History" April 18. The day is set aside for interested people to get together and work on
cabin restoration at the village, similar to Habitat for Humanity projects. Volunteers are
welcome to set up their tents in the green and stay the weekend. She is encouraging
members of nearby shooting and rendezvous clubs to take part. Ceasar's Creek Pioneer
Village is near Waynesville, Ohio, south of Dayton. Two meals will be provided Saturday. For
more information or to let her know you're planning to help, contact her at 937-269-7237,

I had a great time at the Sons of Liberty trade fair in Jackson, Ohio, over the weekend at
Canter's Cave 4-H Camp. Saw lots of friends and met some new ones. Great to see all of
you! If you weren't there, you might want to consider attending next year.
Special thanks to Larry Harris, who was kind enough to pull my car out of the mud. Warm
weather was great. Next time I'll know where to park.
The next trade fair I'll be attending is the Living History Fair in Fremont, Ohio, Feb. 6-7.
There are a few others listed on the calendar between now and then. Please check out the
dates.
Have to keep this short ... I've been working on the winter/spring print edition, which comes
out late this month.
Jan. 1, 2010
Welcome to 2010 everyone!
My original plan to publish the winter/spring print edition has been delayed until late
January. I wanted to have it ready for the first trade fair in Jackson Jan. 16-17. But I'm still
waiting to hear back from many people on 2010 dates. I have added all the rendezvous and
trade fairs for which information has been verified. If yours isn't on here, please email me at
Vicki@RendezvousOhio.com or call me at 419-601-2495.
I also need money to print it. Anyone who wishes to buy an ad, please let me know.

I wish you all a joyous Christmas and a prosperous New Year!!
My son, Jaret, and I had a nice time at the Fort Meigs holiday open house last Sunday.
There were quite a few activities going on - like candle dipping and cookie decorating. And
some beautiful music by Backporch Dulcimers of Perrysburg. Jaret fell in love with
miniature war gaming after Doug Johnson explained it. Thanks Doug!

I apologize for being a bit tardy, but the blackpowder community lost John Virag, also
known as BFI, last Saturday (Dec. 12). I received the information through Paul
Wannemacher, "Turkey," who says: "He will be missed by all who knew him. Please
remember him and his family in your prayers." Joe, I regret I never knew your brother, but my
thoughts and prayers are with you.

The Yankee Peddler Festival in Canal Fulton, Ohio, is looking for 12-15 camps interested
in setting up there for three weekends in September. When contacting him, some people
have discovered the last weekend of Yankee Peddler falls on the first weekend of the
Eastern. However, Bob Yappel told me to entice you with a financial incentive. So if anyone
is interested, call him for more information, 330-336-4087.

Dan'l Cain passed along more information about the passing of Don "Hunter" Davies:
Calling hours are 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, at Parker & Son Funeral home, 210
Medina St., Lodi, Ohio 44254. Services are 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, at the funeral home. Full
military honors will be conducted at Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio,
following the service.

I got a sad note from Tracy Davies, who reports the passing of her husband, Don "Hunter"
Davies. He died at home Sunday (Nov. 29) with his wife and sister attending him. She says,
"He is now with the Great Spirit and not in pain any more."
I didn't know him personally, Tracy, but I've talked to several people who will miss him
greatly. Our condolences from our living history family.
Thanks to everyone who has sent me events. I have added the information I've collected so
far and updated information from last year. Please check them to make sure they're
accurate.
If you don't see your item listed yet, email me. I'm still adding winter events - camps, trade
fairs, holiday get-togethers - as well as events for next spring, summer and fall. Deadline
for the next print edition is Dec. 10.
I've also been working on updating some other parts of the site, so check it out.

Wow! It's been two weeks since I've written here. I've been busy learning to send out an
email newsletter. I eventually succeeded. Everyone on my email list should have gotten it in
their inboxes. I still haven't figured out how to get links to work within the email, so if anybody
can tell me I would appreciate it. I learned I have to send it out a few at a time so my email
program doesn't think it's spam. The last ones were emailed Sunday.
Anybody who didn't get one isn't on my email list. If you would like to be added, please
email me and put "add to mailing list" in the subject line. If you received one and would like
to be removed, please put "remove from mailing list." Thanks!

Liza Kindig of Log Cabin Shop said a Make Your Own Powder Horn workshop with Tim
Crosby has been scheduled for 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. April 24 at the store. Starting with a blank
horn, students will learn everything they need to know to make an authentic, simple, folk-
style powder horn. Class size is limited to 12 students. Advanced registration is required.

now and then. Call 330-948-1082 for information.

What an beautiful November weekend at Caesar's Creek Pioneer Village! Not a lot of
people were there for the weekend, but what was lacking in quantity was made up for in
quality
I know the weather can be questionable in Ohio in November, but if it's possible, plan to
attend this late-season event next year. Or, May 15-16 they have a spring gathering. Seeing
the village is well worth the trip ...
I was fortunate enough to spend Saturday evening in one of the cabins with Jerry and Karen
Ball. Thanks so much, friends! That was a new experience for me and I loved it!
Nov. 2, 2009
Spent an awesome weekend in Xenia with Heeeethin Heights at their Greene County Fish
and Game Fall Rendezvous last weekend. Thanks for the warm welcome everybody! It was
memorable ...
I'm planning to head down to Caesar's Creek Pioneer Village Fall Gathering for the fall
gathering this weekend. Come join us for one final weekend. If you can't camp, come in
Saturday or Sunday for a visit.
The Muster on the Wabash also is happening in Indiana this weekend.
These are the last of the fall events - the ones on my calendar anyway. If you have more,
please let me know.

Please check out the Buy-Sell-Trade ads, and I'm still working on fixing the sizes of the
other ads and putting in larger wording. Please have patience with me ...

Log Cabin Shop has several workshops scheduled at its Lodi, Ohio, store. Call 330-948-

fast and some are full.
Coming up Nov. 14, Dean Freund will be leading a course on making a hunting bag. Three
courses are planned in 2010: Feb. 12-14 - Engraving for Beginners with Michael Lea; and
March 27-28 - Introduction to Forging with Joe Seabolt and Ian Pratt.

I have sad news to report. Mary Lou Pitney got a call from Pat who said Briar died Thursday
after a long, hard battle with cancer. There were no services, as was Briar's wish. Mary Lou
said she told Pat we hope we'll see her at some of the shows, but right now she doesn't
want to think about seeing anyone. She is having a hard time. Pat doesn't want phone calls
right now. If I get an address for sending cards, I'll pass it along.
Whenever anyone uses one of Briar's throwing knives, I'm sure they will think of him. And I
think that's they way he would want it ...
*****
On a brighter note ... I got a phone call from Len Reinker, who is organizing a 100th
anniversary Boy Scout celebration at Camp Manatoc in Peninsula, Ohio, May 21-23. He said
there will be 2500 Boy Scouts there on that Saturday. He wanted to know who in that area
would be a good contact to possibly get some camps set up or at least people in dress out
there for the day. You can stay the weekend if you wish. If you're interested, contact me and
I'll give you his phone number and email address.
Oct. 22, 2009
I was reading my entry from Oct. 15 and it sounds like the season is over! It's not quite over.
I don't have anything planned this weekend, but I have two more events. I'm heading south
for the Greene County Fish and Game Fall Rendezvous near Xenia, Ohio, Oct. 30-Nov. 1,
and I'm going to the Caesar's Creek Pioneer Village Fall Gathering near Waynesville Nov. 7-
8.
Those are both assuming there is decent weather. Not that I'm a fair weather camper, but
cold and rain don't mix for me.
Oct. 6, 2009
What to say about the Eastern? I've been thinking about this since I returned Thursday night
and I can't find the words to describe how awesome it was! What an experience!! I met sooo
many new people. In fact, I knew very few people when I arrived. But I knew a whole lot more
of them by the time I left. And that's what it's all about (to me anyway) - getting to know new
branches of the rendezvous family.
Thanks to all of you who took time to chat with me. Please keep in touch!
It'll be an Eastern I'll never forget ... and I'll never think of weaving in the same way again.
(Sorry about the inside joke, but if you use just a bit of imagination, I think you'll catch on ...)
The Eastern is back in Ohio in 2010 - at the same place it was last year - Snode's Farm,
near Minerva, southeast of Canton. I just heard the dates today - Sept. 24-Oct. 2, with early
setup starting Sept. 22.
The 2010 Old Northwest also is near Spencer in June, which is in the same general area of
Ohio - within 75 miles of each other. This is a golden opportunity for people in Ohio to
attend one - or hopefully both - of the national events.
Sept. 21, 2009
Tiffin's Heritage Festival was a great time - as usual. We missed Father, Son & Friends,
who usually performs there. But we got along without them. They got another contract at the
four-week Medieval festival, so we couldn't blame them. We had lots of other great
entertainment, including a group I never heard before called Maidens IV. Those four young
women - two on fiddles, one on guitar and one on bodran - played some great Celtic music.
And they're different from the mostly-male groups I've seen. If you get a chance to see them,
do so!
Tiffin is my home turf and a lot of public goes through, so the weekend went by in a
whirlwind of visiting with family and friends. Whew!
Next, I'm off the Eastern! If you see my Rendezvous Ohio sign in front of my lodge, please
stop and say hello. You also can pick up a copy of the fall print edition.
Sept. 14, 2009
Had a great weekend at Pioneer Days at Lyme Village in Bellevue, Ohio. This was one of
those good, old comfortable weekends when you already know most everybody there.
Calm, relaxing, fun ...
Headed this weekend to the Tiffin Heritage Festival. This one's in the town where I work and
near the town where I grew up. So I generally spend the entire weekend talking to visitors
as they walk by. And it's a lot of fun ...
Sept. 8, 2009
Wow! ... What a weekend at the Piqua Heritage Festival! So many things to do ... so many
people to see. I don't remember the exact number, but there were more than 250 camps. I'll
do my best to remember the names of everybody I met, but you'll probably have to tell me
again.
My friend Peggy went with the kids and me. It was her first rendezvous. She knows a lot
about primitive living - more than I do. But she had never camped at an event like ours. It
was fun to watch her enjoying every minute of it.You'll find Peggy and her wild foods column
in the fall print edition of Rendezvous Ohio. Look for it at the next event you attend.
Sept. 3, 2009
I have a note to pass along from Tom Stahl, who is planning a Native American teaching
weekend Sept. 12-13 in Paulding County, Ohio.
Because participation is growing, he has moved the event to the park in the village of
Melrose on SR 613, about a quarter mile south of the original location. Although the location
is not as scenic, he said the village park can provide running water and better restroom
facilities.
He said he has received only one phone call from a pre-1840 participant, but he hopes to
get on people's calendars for the same weekend next fall.
Planned activities for this first-time event include working vendors making crafts by hand.
John Miles (Susquehanna) and Mary Miles (Cherokee) plan to show items their ancestors
used in daily life and answer questions. Cecil Isaac (Ojibwa) From Wapol Island, Canada,
also plans to offer his knowledge of the Woodland Native American culture. Public hours 11
a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
There are already plans to increase the size of the event next year.
Sept. 1, 2009
I've added a few new ads to the website. Please take a look ...
Aug. 31, 2009
Ahhh ... it's the last day of August. And a beautiful day it is!
I'm getting back in the swing of things this weekend with (what I consider) the first event of
fall. I'll be at the Piqua Heritage Festival. September looks like an extremely busy month.
Hope you have a good time at whichever events you attend. After a few unforeseen delays, I
finally finished the fall print edition and it's on its way to the printer. I'll get it out to you
distributors as soon as it's printed and I can pick it up - probably next week.
Now I can get back to the website ...
Aug. 24, 2009
I'm in a brief lull to my weekend rendezvous schedule. And I can't believe school starts
Wednesday already. It seems like summer just started.
But fall is my favorite time of year - for rendezvous-ing and other outdoor activities. Too bad it
has to be followed by winter!
Aug. 18, 2009
Hello everyone,
The next rendezvous on my personal calendar is the Piqua Heritage Festival over Labor Day
weekend. But that's a couple weeks away. In the meantime, I have a couple family activities
going on and I'm working on getting the fall issue of Rendezvous Ohio printed.
Anybody who is at Piqua, please stop and say hello!
Aug. 10, 2009
Hello everyone,
I returned last evening from an awesome weekend Summer Rendezvous with the Seneca
Muzzleloaders! These are some of my oldest rendezvous friends ... or maybe they would
prefer if I said the rendezvous friends I've had the longest! And some of them are some my
newest rendezvous friends because we have several new members. It's great!
In any case, I love meeting new people and visiting new places, but I also love getting
together with old friends.
Aug. 4, 2009
Tom Stahl is looking for period dress Native Americans, fur traders and vendors with
handmade items to set up for a teaching weekend Sept. 12-13 (of this year) on the Auglaize
River near the former Oquanox Indian reserve in Paulding County, Ohio. The camps would
add atmosphere for an educational event on Native American culture.
He said he has about four acres on the river. The main speakers are John and Mary Miles
of McComb, Ohio, and Cecil Isaac of Wapol Island, Canada.
July 27, 2009
Well ... I got to visit Call to Liberty this past weekend. But my van broke, so I couldn't stay the
whole weekend. There's always next year (or even October). It was nice to see all of you - for
a little while anyway.
Speaking of Call to Liberty, there has been some confusion about the fall dates. The
correct dates are Oct. 16-18. If you see any others, they are incorrect.
*****
I've added more events to the calendar that weren't previously listed. If anybody has
anything more to add, let me know ASAP. The lists from mid-August through the end of the
year - and maybe some for 2010 - will be printed in the fall edition which will be coming out
in early August.
July 22, 2009
I had a wonderful weekend at the Oak Ridge Festival. Some longtime attendees said it was
a good-sized camp this year. The whole thing was great, but listening to the antics of the
Rambling Rovers Saturday night was quite interesting. Hope the fiddle survived ...
Big Mark, the Oak Ridge booshway, is looking for somebody to take his place. If you're
interested in taking over, email me here and I'll pass it along.
July 11, 2009
This is the first weekend I haven't been at a rendezvous for quite a while, so I'm trying catch
up on some things and get the next print edition ready to roll.
I've added a few events that weren't previously listed. If anybody has anything more to add,
let me know ASAP. The lists from mid-August through the end of the year are the ones that
will be printed in the fall edition.
July 6, 2009
I had a great time at the Old Northwest last week. Visited some old friends, met lots of new
ones and got to know some of the people I met there last year a little bit better.
There's so much I could say that it won't fit in this space. It will have to be enough to say to
everyone who was there - thanks for the memories.
I was honored to be asked to be scribe for the 25th anniversary of the Old Northwest at
Ceasar's Creek in 2011. I know it will be a lot of work - but it should be fun too! It seems like
a long time away, but it will be here before we know it ...
I have a few more events to add to the calendar as soon as I get the details. Unfortunately, I
neglected to get info from Steve Reynolds and Tom "Chrysler" (sorry to use that name,
Tom, but I don't know your last name) and I don't have any contact information for them.
They had two events I wanted info for. If you see this, guys, please contact me. Or if
somebody else sees this, please ask them to contact me or give me their phone numbers
or email addresses. Thanks!
*****
A housekeeping note ... The deadline is July 10 for advertisements in the fall print edition -
which prints in early August. That's this Friday. If you buy an ad in the print edition, I'll put a
similar ad on this website. You can see examples by looking on the home page and on the
events page. For more ad info, click here. (if you don't have anything to advertise, I also take
donations. Thanks so much to all of you who have donated and advertised so far!!)
Also, the deadline is Friday to submit any events that aren't already listed. Send in anything
happening late summer, fall or winter. I'm also collecting information on next year's events.
This is the first weekend in a while that I won't be camping anywhere, so I'll be working on
the fall print issue.
And then ... the Oak Ridge Festival in Attica July 18-19.
June 22, 2009
This will be my last update until sometime after July 5. I'm heading to the Old Northwest
Thursday and have another event over July 4 weekend, so I'll be absent from here for a little
while.
The Muster on the Maumee at Fort Meigs in Perrysburg, Ohio, was as good as usual. I like
the timeline event because I meet new people and get a taste of what reenactors in other
eras aredoing. I was a little disappointed because some of the Vikings I met in past years
weren't there this year.
This was family weekend for us. My husband went along, as well as my daughter, son-in-
law and granddaughter for their first camp of this year. And my stepson went on his first
camp ever - made himself some leggings and bought a tent. Guess he's going to attend
more often now.
I learned a lot about flint being camped next to flint knapper Mike Burcewicz. Thanks Mike. It
was fun getting to know you. And thanks so much for teaching my 10-year-old son to knap.
He was so proud of that arrowhead he made!
June 15, 2009
This weekend, the Pioneer and Primitive Arts Festival at Fort Firelands near Port Clinton,
Ohio, was a nice, relaxing weekend. Hosts Jeff and Terri Barton were great. They even
grilled for us Saturday evening. Instead of competitions, people provided demonstrations to
the public on flint knapping, hawk throwing and atlatl throwing. Lots of people tried the hawk
and atlatl. There is room for more camps inside the fort - if anybody wants to add it to their
schedule next year.
Watch the listings on the calendar pages for registration information.
This weekend? On to Fort Meigs' Muster on the Maumee. This will be fifth or sixth time at the
Muster and it's been great every time. The registration deadline is past and you must be
registered in advance to attend.

On another note, I received a message from Dean and Sue Craven, two of the people
distributing the print edition of Rendezvous Ohio in northwest Ohio, southern Michigan, and
eastern Indiana. They are heading Northwestern Ohio's Living History Tradeshow and
Rendezvous.
Dean said, "I meant to tell you sooner, but ya know how that goes. The RO's literally sold
themselves, so to speak. Everywhere we went, we showed it to the owner, and they would
start to read it, and then say 'Yea, we need some of these left here.' When we would leave,
they would still be reading the RO's. The feedback I've got from my friends is very positive. I
have only about 15 left for personal handouts. We will continue to distribute all future issues
if you wish.
On a different note, I have been getting a lot of calls and emails about the 4th. I think it may
turn out a little bigger than I expected for the first year. That's ok. There is plenty of room.
Also, I don't know if I told you, but all profits from food sales from the kitchen goes to the
Northwest Township Auxiliary. All free will donations at the doors go to the fire department."
****
I also got the following message today that I want to pass along:
"It has been brought to my attention that there is a rumor floating around Rendezvous land
that the NEPR has been cancelled due to the Booshway quitting.
This is purely a RUMOR! The Booshway, Jeff Hunt, along with his staff, has been working
diligently to make this a great event for everyone.
I would greatly appreciate it if you would forward this message to your fellow rendezvous
friends.
Thank you
Beverly Heister, NRLHF interim officer and NEPR volunteer
June 9, 2009
I gained a greater appreciation last weekend for people who run events. I was one of the
planners and Rendezvous Ohio was one of the sponsors of the Eastern Woodland Native
American Gathering and Pre-1840 Encampment. My thanks to everyone who attended. We
had a good turnout from both the public and participants and everything went smoothly, but I
was certainly tired at the end of each day.
I posted a few more photos in the photo album. There also are a few posted on our
Rendezvous Ohio group. I'm looking for photos of other events to add to the site. Please feel
free to send me pictures of your events and I'll add some of them too.
There are four events listed for this weekend coming up. See the events page for more
information. I'm going to attend the Pioneer and Primitive Arts Festival at Fort Firelands,
near Lakeside and Marblehead, on Ohio's north coast near Lake Erie. This is a fairly new
event and I haven't been there before, so I can't tell you a lot about it.
If anybody would like to email or mail reports on events, please do so. I'm trying to attend
events in many areas of Ohio, but I can only be one place at a time. Feel free to ask a
question somebody else might be able to answer ... or comment on an event ... or send
pictures ... or whatever. I would like this website to be interactive and I haven't heard from
many people lately.
June 1, 2009
One of my big events of the season is coming up this weekend near Tiffin, Ohio. It's the third
annual Eastern Woodland Native American Gathering and Pre-1840 Encampment.
I know it's a long name, but we want the public to understand what the weekend it about.
Maybe we'll shorten it next year. I help plan this one, so I know how much work goes into a
good event.
Please plan to join us! If you aren't registered, don't worry about it. We have lots of room.
There's no camp fee, but donations are requested of cash or items to be auctioned. The
money goes for a very good cause. The park district has no outside funding, except from
grants and donations. It's mission is to set aside natural areas in Seneca County for the
benefit of everyone. If you would like more information, ask me.
*****
I'm still working on adding new photos to the album. It takes time - more than I have right
now (see above). For more photos, follow the link at left or click here to join Rendezvous
Ohio in Yahoo groups. You can find some of my photos there, along with lots from other
events and other people. Please add yours.
Some of the group members also have been compiling a list of links and an information
database for reenactors. They're doing a great job! Check it out ...

John Baum of Bushwacker's Trading Post (ad on the events page) sent an update. He is
helping me determine if readers (like you) are responding to the advertisements on this
website. Here's what he said in his words:
"OHMYGOSH!!!!! You ran that little plug for me on your page one, and you jumped from 9.7%
to 20.61% of the day's hits. At one point there was so much traffic hitting my site that it knock
me off-line for a short. Wonderful!!!
You know that this says that you are getting great traffic as well as what is
responding in your readership."
May 27, 2009
No wonder summer goes so fast! I looked at the last date I wrote here and it was nine days
ago. Sure doesn't seem like it.
Over Memorial Day I attended an absolutely fantastic rendezvous at the Logan Hills Festival
in Zanesfield. I barely had my canvas and camp set up before my neighbors were coming
over to welcome us
Even though I was on unfamiliar turf, I felt right at home.
In the interest of time and space, I can't give you too many details. I'll just say the
atmosphere of friendly competition in hawk & knife and archery was fun. And I never before
participated in a "lizard pull." I must mention the outdoor drama called "The Edge of the
Wilderness" was very impressive. It exceeded my expectations.
And the best part ... I have a whole new group of people I call friends.
*****
I just updated the advertising information. Anyone interested in an ad in the print edition
and/or on the website, please click here.
May 18, 2009
Hope you had a good time at whichever event you attended over the weekend. It was a busy
weekend. I counted eight of them on the list - plus one at Fort Randolph in West Virginia I
didn't know about in time to make the list this year.
Memorial Day weekend coming up is almost as busy. I'm going to check out the Logan Hills
Festival in Zanesfield, Ohio.
I talked to booshway Jeff Colwell on the phone and he said there should be plenty of things
for my almost-10-year-old son and teenage daughter to do there. Looking forward to it!

Just a reminder ... Advanced registration for the Old Northwest in Lockington June 26-July 4
is due May 26. That's next Tuesday. Pre-registration helps the people planning the event to
have enough wood and port-a-pots available and estimate the amount of space they will be
using.

This week, I'll be getting the print edition of Rendezvous Ohio mailed to more distributors. If
you have already received a copy, PLEASE let me know what you think.

I've spent part of the week mailing copies of the print edition to distributors. If you see any of
these people, ask them for a copy: Shelly Williams, Rick Mohr, Beverly Heister or Jim
Shawver. Next week, Bill Kimmel will have some. You can find them at Mountain Man Tradin
Post in Tiffin, Ohio.
I was nervous about people's reactions, but so far all the feedback has been
enthusiastically positive. Please let me know what you think ...
If you would be willing to pass them out at events you attend ... or put a stack on your trade
blanket ... or on a rack in your store ... please let me know. In particular, I need people in
southern and eastern Ohio.

Debbie Andrews of the Ohio Atlatl Association reports the group's event at Flint Ridge July
17-19 will take place after all. The Licking County Historical Society is overseeing the area
now. The event was scheduled - then was canceled - but is now back on.

Now it's time to get ready for the weekend. Have a great one!

I'm so excited! I'm going to pick up the first print edition of Rendezvous Ohio from the printer
this afternoon. I'm also a little nervous.
I'll be getting it out to the distributors this week, so look for a copy at the events you attend
this weekend. I hope you all find it informative and easy to read. I'm not sure which events
the distributors will be attending. Maybe they will tell me and I'll pass them along to you.
When you get a copy, PLEASE give me feedback so I'll know what you liked and what you
didn't like. Suggestions are always welcome.

I'm getting ready to attend the Lost Arts Festival at Seven Eagles Historical Education
Center this weekend in Grand Rapids, Ohio. When I talk to people about it, some have said,
"I haven't been there in years." So, if it's been a while since you've been to Seven Eagles - or
if you've never been there - please join us. We have fun!
If anybody else wants to recommend a good event for the coming weekend or Memorial Day
weekend, email me and I'll pass it along.

Finally ... the spring/summer print edition of Rendezvous Ohio is at the printer waiting to be
printed. It won't be long now.
Distributors, would you please email me and let me know how many copies you would
like? Or if anyone wants to volunteer to be a distributor, let me know. I would appreciate it!
I especially need more people in eastern Ohio - NE, SE and central; and in central Ohio
(Columbus area).
I plan to mail copies to distributors, who then can display them at rendezvous and other
events they attend.
The magazine has different content that the website, so even if you're a regular reader here,
check out the print edition too. As always, I'm open to suggestions.
As with most pilot projects, it took a little longer than expected. So I'm updating the print
schedule for this year. The next issue is scheduled to come out in early August. So if you
have a late summer or fall event that isn't listed, you still have time to get in the next one.
The deadline for ads and listings is July 15.
Of course, you can send listings in anytime and I'll add them to the website.*****
I "talked" to Ron Shouse on Facebook the other day and he said Grassy Run in
Williamsburg (Clermont County) was great this year. That beautiful weather seemed to be
happening statewide.

Aaahhh ... The first rendezvous of the season. I attended the Seneca Muzzleloaders Spring
Rendezvous Friday night through Sunday. It was good to see some old friends - and meet
some new ones too. Hope we'll see you back! SML's grounds is a beautiful setting on the
banks of the Sandusky River in Seneca County near Tiffin
And such great weather! It was a bit windy, but nobody was complaining.
While I was throwing hawk & knife Saturday, I remembered a question I wanted to ask.
Does anybody have contact information for Briar, the vendor. I don't know him by any other
name. I borrowed a throwing knife made by him and I want to find out about buying one.
Join us for the Seneca Muzzleloaders summer rendezvous Aug. 7-9 and/or the fall
rendezvous Oct. 9-11.
Looking ahead, my next event - personally - is the Lost Arts Festival May 15-17 at Seven
Eagles Historical Education Center, Grand Rapids, Ohio. For those of you who have been
around awhile ... Yes, it's the same location that used to host a very large gathering quite a
few years ago. It never actually died, but interest was rekindled a few years ago and it's
been growing steadily every since. Join us! Further details can be found on the events page.

Just a quick note to let you know I've been immersed in preparing the first edition of
Rendezvous Ohio, the magazine. I'm getting close to the print date.
I did, however, see this bit of information recently and I wanted to pass it along. A French
man is planning a "French immersion" Voyageurs session May 31-June 6.
He said it is a good program for people who want to learn to speak about nature and the
history of the fur trade in French. His description sounds really interesting. Read more on
the news page.
